Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Part-Time Librarian to join our team at Lone Star College. The successful candidate will be responsible for promoting and supporting student learning, providing information services, and contributing to the educational environment of the college.

This is a part-time position, working approximately 20 hours per week. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in Library Science/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution and a minimum of 3 years of library experience in higher education, preferably at a community college.

The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing students, faculty, and other library users in accessing and using print, audio-visual, and electronic information resources. They will also plan and develop instructional materials, promote the use of research guides and other instructional materials, and maintain a study atmosphere conducive to student learning.

The Part-Time Librarian will work closely with the library team to evaluate, acquire, and provide access to information resources in a variety of formats to support student learning. They will also maintain professional working relationships with students, colleagues, and other library users.

The ideal candidate will have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Instruct students, faculty, and other library users in accessing and using print, audio-visual, and electronic information resources
  • Plan and develop instructional materials using appropriate technologies
  • Promote the use of research guides and other instructional materials
  • Maintain a study atmosphere conducive to student learning
  • Evaluate, acquire, and provide access to information resources in a variety of formats
  • Maintain professional working relationships with students, colleagues, and other library users

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Library Science/Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Minimum 3 years of library experience in higher education, preferably at a community college
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with colleagues and community

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards
  • Work schedule may include weekdays, weekends, or evening

Salary and Benefits:

The hourly pay rate for this position is $28.89. The college offers a supportive, collegial work environment, excellent work/life balance, tuition waiver, participation in a tax-deferred retirement plan, and more.
