KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Family Support Counselor is a professional role dedicated to delivering clinical services to both relative and non-relative caregivers who are responsible for dependent children under the jurisdiction of the local judicial system. This position aims to enhance and stabilize placements by offering specialized therapeutic services to prevent children from entering licensed care.

  • Deliver direct counseling services to caregivers and children to address family needs and ensure placement stability.
  • Provide therapeutic crisis intervention as necessary to help stabilize families and maintain safety for children.
  • Model effective behaviors and monitor families to ensure the successful application of newly acquired skills.
  • Facilitate access to community resources, including counseling, psychiatric services, financial assistance, employment support, parenting guidance, housing, and other relevant services.
  • Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, develop family support plans, and create transition plans for families following intake. Regularly evaluate client progress towards therapeutic goals.
  • Conduct termination sessions to confirm that therapeutic objectives have been met and that necessary wraparound services are established.
  • Participate in meetings, staffing sessions, and court hearings with caregivers to advocate on their behalf.
  • Maintain weekly communication with case management and other professionals to ensure continuity of care.
  • Provide on-call services as assigned, adhering to program policies and procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in social work or a related field is required; a Master's Level Counselor is preferred.
    • A Bachelor's Degree in social work or a related field, along with three years of counseling experience, may be considered. Proven counseling experience is essential, demonstrating effective therapeutic skills in addressing issues such as loss, crisis, emotional or behavioral disturbances, untreated mental health concerns, substance abuse, and domestic violence.
    • A Master's Degree in social work or a related field, combined with at least one year of counseling experience, is preferred.
  • Registered interns pursuing licensure in social work and counseling are preferred.
  • Participation in continuing education and training is mandatory each year.
  • A valid driver's license and proof of auto insurance are required.
