Job Summary

The Addictions Counselor Assistant provides support to the multidisciplinary treatment team at the Addiction Treatment Center. This role involves assisting with individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, treatment planning, and clinical activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with counseling sessions, group activities, and crisis intervention as assigned.
  • Develop, assess, and modify individual treatment plans by gathering information through direct observation and discussion with clients.
  • Coordinate care with referral sources regarding admission and discharge, including referrals for aftercare.
  • Complete required client and facility documentation, adhering to OASAS procedures and confidentiality regulations.
  • Conduct and monitor recreational, vocational, and social activities as needed.
  • Assist with client transportation, room searches, and urine toxicology collection.
  • Prepare room and client supplies for new admissions.
  • Conduct routine rounds and document observations, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • May provide training or guidance to newer peers, particularly in relation to ATC routines, procedures, and policies.
  • May complete insurance inquiries and documentation regarding coordination of care with financial/insurance entities.
  • Monitor clients and ensure building safety and security.
  • Participate in meal preparation and distribution.
  • Communicate shift change information to facilitate smooth transition.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have an Associate's degree with a specialization in Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, or Chemical Dependency, or one year of full-time employment in a field requiring communication skills and one year of experience in a direct treatment capacity working in an addictions treatment setting.

Substitutions may be made for the one year of communication experience with 30 college credits in a human services field, or for the one year of specialized experience with 10 college credits in specific alcoholism, substance abuse, or chemical dependency courses, or 150 clock hours of relevant addictions for CASAC credential eligibility.
