Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Addictions Counselor Assistant to join our multidisciplinary treatment team at the Addiction Treatment Center (ATC). As a key member of our team, you will work under the supervision of an Addictions Counselor to provide direct care and counseling to clients.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with individual and group counseling sessions, crisis intervention, and treatment planning.
  • Develop, assess, and modify individual treatment plans by gathering information through direct observation and discussion with clients.
  • Coordinate care with referral sources, including admission and discharge, and provide referrals for aftercare.
  • Complete required client and facility documentation, adhering to OASAS procedures and confidentiality regulations.
  • Conduct and monitor recreational, vocational, and social activities as needed.
  • Assist with client transportation, room searches, and urine toxicology collection.
  • Prepare room and client supplies for new admissions.
  • Conduct routine rounds and document observations, maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • May provide training or guidance to newer peers on routines, procedures, and policies.
  • May complete insurance inquiries and documentation for coordination of care.
  • Monitor clients and ensure building safety and security.
  • Participate in meal preparation and distribution.
  • Communicate shift change information to facilitate smooth transitions.
Requirements

To be considered for this position, you must have an Associate's degree with a specialization in Alcoholism, Substance Abuse, or Chemical Dependency, or one year of full-time employment in a field requiring communication skills and one year of experience in a direct treatment capacity in an addictions treatment setting.

Substitutions may be made for the required experience and education, including 30 college credits in a human services field, 10 college credits in specific alcoholism, substance abuse, or chemical dependency courses, or 150 clock hours of relevant addictions for CASAC credential eligibility.

Working Conditions

This position is a per diem appointment, and the workweek is variable. The ATC is a tobacco-free facility, and all employees are expected to adhere to OASAS procedures and confidentiality regulations.
