Job Summary/Overview
Oversees and organizes the efforts of personnel in a multi-shift facility dedicated to the upkeep and repair of building structures, machinery, equipment, and grounds through the execution of various responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Guides team members involved in maintenance tasks, ensuring the efficient and effective completion of their assignments. Develops and modifies work schedules to align with production goals and timelines.
- As directed by the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, solicits and evaluates proposals from contractors for maintenance and facility services not handled by internal staff. Manages projects, equipment repairs, and routine maintenance tasks, monitoring contractor performance and providing necessary feedback.
- Orders tools, equipment, repair components, and supplies as needed.
- Collaborates closely with the safety coordinator to ensure that maintenance activities conducted by both internal staff and external contractors adhere to safety standards and regulations. Proactively addresses and resolves safety concerns within the facility.
- Reviews completed work for compliance with blueprints, specifications, and quality standards. Works in conjunction with the safety coordinator, facility insurer, and other relevant agencies to ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines.
- Implements and maintains a preventive maintenance (PM) program for production machinery and various facility systems, including HVAC. This includes overseeing maintenance and operator PM, utilizing a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and managing spare parts inventory.
- Utilizes CMMS for the submission, execution, management, and documentation of work order activities.
- Communicates and enforces company policies among staff, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and electrical regulations.
- Enhances production by improving working conditions and equipment, identifying and resolving operational issues, and collaborating with supervisors to address departmental needs.
- Proposes modifications to working conditions and equipment usage to boost efficiency and durability.
- Directly supervises maintenance personnel; executes supervisory duties in accordance with organizational policies and relevant laws. Responsibilities include employee training, work planning, assignment, performance evaluation, and addressing grievances.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
- Proficient in reading and interpreting documents such as safety protocols, operational and maintenance guidelines, and procedural manuals.
- Capable of composing routine reports and correspondence.
- Adept at delivering effective presentations to groups of employees.
- Experience in machine shop operations, mechanical drafting, and electrical/electronic training is advantageous.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- Five years of supervisory experience in maintenance within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in overseeing technicians.
- Ability to train and develop technicians efficiently.
- Clear and effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Capability to manage employment actions such as performance reviews and disciplinary measures.
- Physical ability to lift, lower, push, or pull up to 40 lbs safely.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree from a two-year college or technical institution.
- Experience in a unionized work environment.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD for mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Experience with PLC systems.
