Job Summary/Overview
Oversees and coordinates the activities of personnel in a multi-shift manufacturing environment focused on the upkeep and repair of building structures, machinery, equipment, and grounds through the execution of the following responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervises team members engaged in maintenance tasks, ensuring effective and efficient completion of assigned duties. Develops and modifies work plans to support production goals and meet timelines.
- As directed by the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, solicits and evaluates bids from contractors for maintenance and facility services not performed by internal staff. Manages projects, equipment repairs, and routine maintenance tasks, monitoring contractor performance and providing necessary feedback.
- Orders tools, equipment, repair parts, and supplies as needed.
- Collaborates closely with the safety coordinator to ensure that all maintenance work, whether performed by internal staff or external contractors, adheres to safety regulations and standards. Proactively addresses and resolves safety concerns within the facility.
- Reviews completed work for compliance with blueprints, specifications, and industry standards. Works in conjunction with the safety coordinator, facility insurer, and other regulatory bodies to ensure adherence to compliance requirements.
- Administers and maintains a preventive maintenance (PM) program for production machinery and various facility systems, including HVAC. This includes managing maintenance schedules, utilizing a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS), and overseeing spare parts inventory.
- Utilizes CMMS for the submission, execution, management, and documentation of work order activities.
- Communicates and enforces company policies to team members while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, and electrical regulations.
- Enhances production efficiency by improving working conditions and equipment, analyzing and resolving operational issues, and collaborating with supervisors to meet departmental needs.
- Proposes modifications to working conditions and equipment usage to enhance efficiency and durability.
- Directly supervises maintenance personnel, executing supervisory responsibilities in line with organizational policies and applicable laws. This includes training staff, planning, assigning, and directing work, evaluating performance, addressing concerns, and resolving issues.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operational and maintenance guidelines, and procedural documentation.
- Proficient in writing routine reports and correspondence.
- Effective communication skills for presenting information to groups of employees.
- Mechanical skills in machine shop practices, mechanical drawing, and electrical/electronic training are advantageous.
Required Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- 5 years of supervisory experience in maintenance within a manufacturing setting.
- Experience managing technicians.
- Proven ability to train and develop technicians efficiently.
- Clear and effective communication skills across all organizational levels.
- Capability to execute and manage employment actions such as performance reviews and disciplinary measures.
- Ability to safely lift, lower, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree from a two-year college or technical institution.
- Experience in a unionized work environment.
- Familiarity with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD for mechanical and electrical schematics.
- Experience with PLC systems.
