Position Title: Faculty Role in Neurodegeneration and Caregiver Science

The Department of Neurology is in search of a distinguished faculty-level researcher with expertise in neurodegeneration or caregiver science to enhance our team as part of a substantial investment in this critical area.

  • The strategic plan for the Commonwealth of Virginia emphasizes Brain and Neuroscience as a significant societal challenge and opportunity, leveraging existing strengths.
  • In partnership, the Provost and Deans from various schools are undertaking coordinated faculty recruitments to strengthen the community of neuroscientists.
  • The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in advancing research in neurodegeneration and caregiver science within the Department of Neurology while engaging in the broader initiative.

The ideal candidate will receive support from the Provost and their School Dean, becoming an integral part of the UVA Brain Institute and the extensive neuroscience community.

Key Focus Areas:

  • Identification and characterization of early biomarkers for dementia
  • Investigating the influence of risk factors on neurodegeneration, dementia, cognitive decline, and caregiver well-being
  • Creating interventions to delay dementia onset and alleviate the adverse effects on cognitive and overall health of caregivers

The successful applicant should possess an MD, DO, PhD, MD-PhD, or DO-PhD degree, demonstrating a strong record of research accomplishments and an innovative research agenda capable of attracting external funding.

  • Ability to foster connections between fundamental and applied scientists to translate laboratory findings into practical applications is essential.
  • A strong commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion is required.

Clinicians must be board-eligible or board-certified in their specialty and provide clinical care to adult patients.
