Position: Residential Advisor

Reports to: Program Manager

Key Responsibilities:

Residential Advisors play a vital role in ensuring a safe, nurturing, and therapeutic atmosphere that promotes personal growth and rehabilitation. The primary objective is to deliver tailored behavioral support that empowers individuals to achieve maximum independence.

Essential Duties:
  1. Guide and support individuals in daily activities, promoting personal hygiene and appropriate behavior.
  2. Collaborate with the Residential Supervisor to assess individual capabilities and needs for independent living, contributing to the development of Individual Support Plans (ISPs).
  3. Instruct individuals in budgeting and financial management skills.
  4. Educate individuals on self-medication practices in accordance with regulations, supervising medication administration when necessary.
  5. Assist individuals with household tasks, including grocery shopping, meal planning, and preparation.
  6. Engage with individuals on a personal level to address concerns and challenges.
  7. Facilitate house meetings and informal discussions among peers.
  8. Respond effectively to emergencies, utilizing crisis intervention techniques as needed.
  9. Support individuals in using public transportation and provide transportation to appointments when required.
  10. Maintain accurate records, including data collection and daily logs, and ensure smooth communication between shifts.
  11. Promote healthy eating habits and assist individuals in accessing community nutritional resources.
  12. Encourage relationship-building and community integration by helping individuals join local organizations.
  13. Teach problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  14. Organize leisure and recreational activities based on individual preferences, fostering self-initiative.
  15. Support individuals in developing self-management skills related to health and behavior.
  16. Provide instruction in basic first aid, fire safety, and emergency preparedness.
  17. Empower individuals to make choices and decisions regarding their daily lives and future aspirations.
  18. Assist in establishing natural support systems for individuals.
  19. Encourage self-esteem and personal empowerment.
  20. Adhere to individual treatment plans consistently.
  21. Conduct monthly fire drills in compliance with safety procedures.
  22. Report any instances of abuse or neglect to the appropriate authorities.
  23. Coordinate with maintenance personnel and inspectors as needed.
  24. Utilize on-call and crisis teams when necessary.
  25. Participate in mandatory training sessions and team meetings.
  26. Implement OSHA regulations and maintain a safe working environment.
  27. Perform physical tasks such as lifting and snow removal as required.
  28. Complete additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Residential Advisors are essential to the success of our Residential Services. Candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  1. A High School Diploma and at least one year of experience in Human Services. Training is available for less experienced candidates.
  2. Certification in medication administration.
  3. Must be at least 21 years of age.
  4. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  5. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact tactfully with others.
  6. Reliability and adaptability.
  7. Insightfulness and effective communication skills.
  8. A valid driver's license and capability to operate a van.
  9. Training in crisis intervention techniques.
  10. Certification in CPR, First Aid, and AED.
  11. Must pass background checks as required.
