We are currently seeking a skilled Land Acquisition Specialist to support our Mid Atlantic Region.

The Land Acquisition Specialist is responsible for securing land, easements, and other rights for our Department of Transportation (DOT) and municipal clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with property owners and public officials to negotiate the purchase or lease of land and rights-of-way for utility lines, pipelines, and various construction initiatives.
  • Address all land-related matters, including title transfers, mortgage issues, and zoning regulations.
  • Communicate project details to landowners and obtain their consent for access routes and the restoration of roads and surfaces through negotiation.
  • Draft resolutions and other legal documents pertinent to land acquisitions.
  • Review public records to ascertain ownership and property rights.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach efforts and parcel-related information in the database.
  • Perform general administrative and clerical tasks as needed to support the team and enhance knowledge of relevant regulations, laws, rules, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in right-of-way or real estate services is essential.
  • Familiarity with procedures for acquiring real property interests for public utility and infrastructure projects.
  • Ability to obtain Notary Public designation.
  • Knowledge of laws and regulations governing real estate transactions.
  • Proficient understanding of land descriptions and terminology, surface and subsurface rights, ROW document analysis, along with strong negotiation skills.
  • Valid State driver's license and a satisfactory driving record as determined by Volkert.
  • Reliable transportation for travel to meet with property owners.
  • Multi-lingual capabilities are advantageous.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and general computer applications.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Creative thinking, foresight, and sound judgment to identify and resolve business, technical, and administrative challenges related to ROW services.
