We are seeking a skilled Optical Materials Specialist to join our team at Corning Incorporated. As an Optical Materials Specialist, you will be responsible for grinding, polishing, and figuring various optical materials to specified tolerances based on manufacturing instructions.
Key Responsibilities- Grind, polish, and figure various optical materials to specified tolerances.
- Operate machines and conduct hand operations on optical surfaces.
- Take measurements on metrology systems such as interferometers, profilometers, and microscopes.
- Clean, handle, and package precision optical components.
- Perform calculations, quality tests, measurements, and inspections.
- Read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions to aid in processing optical materials.
- Assist in maintaining productivity and efficiency.
- Comply with all environmental, health, and safety requirements.
- Clean machinery and maintain cleanliness of the work area.
- Lifting 30 lbs. daily.
- Daily standing 50% of shift.
- Wearing protective gloves, glasses, and safety shoes.
- Exposure to chemicals: toluene, acetone, alcohol, and OMS.
- Exposure to materials: aluminum, nickel, zinc sulfide, zinc selenide, germanium, indium arsenide, and silicon polymers.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Two-year technical degree preferable.
- 1 to 3 years optics or polishing experience.
- Blueprint and technical specification knowledge.
- Ability to see and evaluate optical surfaces.
- Demonstrated computer and mathematics skills.
