Job Title: Optical Coating Engineer

Corning Incorporated is seeking a highly skilled Optical Coating Engineer to join our Advanced Optics Division Engineering team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing and developing optical thin film coatings and manufacturing processes that meet customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design robust, cost-effective coating production processes using existing methods.
  • Specify cleaning, material handling, storage procedures, and metrology methods to characterize coating performance.
  • Manage coating designs and process recipe portfolio.
  • Transfer knowledge of new coating designs, processes, and product characteristics into manufacturing.
  • Interface with Optical Design and System Engineering teams to understand new coating fundamentals and processing requirements.
Requirements:
  • B.S. degree in Optical Science/Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent degree.
  • 10+ years of optical coating design and manufacturing experience, ideally in the visible to LWIR wavelength range.
  • Coating and optical design/modeling software experience, including OptiLayer, Essential McLeod, TFCalc, WVASE, or similar software.
  • Thin film characterization experience, including spectrophotometer, ellipsometer, SEM, TEM, FTIR, SIMS, and MIL spec testing.
