The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids employs a Membership By Design framework, a model for member engagement and community building. All staff members, whether front-line, management, full-time, or part-time, along with volunteers, play a vital role in member engagement. This involves six key steps:

POSITION SUMMARY:
Before and After School Program Educators ensure a dependable, safe, and enjoyable environment for children to prepare for and unwind from their school day. Assistant Educators will support the planning, development, and execution of classroom activities for programs. Schedules may vary, but require weekday availability from 6:00 AM - 9:00 AM and/or 3:00 PM - 6:00 PM.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist the Site Coordinator in creating and leading daily lesson plans.
- Prepare materials for daily activities.
- Maintain attendance records, including arrival and departure times.
- Provide weekly lesson plans to parents.
- Communicate daily activity information to each participant's parent.
- Supervise children effectively.
- Assist the Site Supervisor with parent-teacher conferences as necessary.
- Ensure the quality and availability of supplies, equipment, and materials in the classroom.
Perform any other functions deemed necessary for the smooth and efficient operation of the YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids Association.
COMPENSATION:
$18.28; Non-Exempt, Part-time (up to 25 hours/week). This position includes a $2/hour shift premium for staff who work both before and after school program hours on the same day, paid out as a monthly bonus.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Six months to one year of experience in youth development or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Ability to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles. A strong desire to work with school-age children.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION:
- Blood Borne Pathogen training.
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification required within the first 60 days.
- First Aid Certification required within the first 60 days.
- AED-Oxygen Certification required within the first 60 days.
- State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT).
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

0 - 5% of local travel within the state of Michigan; occasional out-of-state travel may be required for educational conferences or training.
