About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at the Defense Health Agency Civilian Corps in Falls Church, VA. As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for ensuring the compatibility of donor and recipient blood prior to transfusion, conducting quality control procedures, and performing specialized immuno-hematologic studies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure compatibility of donor and recipient blood prior to transfusion by performing typing, cross-matching, and solving complex antibody problems.
  • Conduct quality control procedures on reagents and equipment, maintaining proper records for quality control reports.
  • Perform specialized immuno-hematologic studies associated with patients scheduled for open heart surgery, transplants, and prenatal studies.
  • Make final checks on blood prior to release to ensure proper units are assigned to the correct patients.
  • Review results from night/evening shifts, clarifying errors or discrepancies.
  • Search technical literature for methods that meet objectives set by supervisors.
Requirements
  • US Citizenship required.
  • At least 1 year of licensed experience at the time of application.
  • Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT), or other board or registry deemed comparable by the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Transfusion or blood bank experience.
