The Internal Revenue Service is seeking a skilled Tax Compliance Specialist to join our team. This exciting role will provide an opportunity to utilize your expertise in tax law and compliance to ensure that individuals and organizations are meeting their tax obligations.

About the Role:

This position is responsible for evaluating and resolving Voluntary Compliance cases, as well as conferring with customers and representatives to explain financial, legal, and other significant issues involved and the applicability of pertinent tax laws, regulations, and related filing requirements.

You will also research and analyze data, including examination results, to identify industry trends, issues, and problems. Your expertise will be crucial in identifying previously unknown potential areas of non-compliance requiring policy determinations, legal interpretations, or law changes to promote voluntary compliance.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate and resolve Voluntary Compliance cases
  • Confer with customers and representatives to explain tax laws and regulations
  • Research and analyze data to identify industry trends and problems
  • Develop audit guidelines and provide technical assistance to field agents
  • Prepare technical responses to inquiries from members of Congress, taxpayers, and authorized representatives
Requirements:

To be considered for this role, you must have 1 year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Your experience should include demonstrated knowledge of Federal tax laws, regulations, precedent decisions, or other areas related to the position.

Your expertise should also include experience working with the Internal Revenue Code, regulations, procedures, published rulings, and court decisions as they relate to tax-exempt bond matters. You should have experience analyzing difficult factual situations and applying relevant legal and administrative authority.
