Position Overview:

This role reports directly to the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO). The individual in this position will be responsible for the planning, organization, and supervision of nursing care, ensuring that patient needs are met during their shift while providing optimal service to both physicians and patients in a cost-effective manner.

The Night Nursing Supervisor is expected to foster an environment that promotes personal and professional growth for themselves and their colleagues. Dependability and alignment of individual practice with the hospital's mission, values, and vision are essential.

This position involves overseeing patient placement coordination, serving as a resource for clinical staff, and assisting with conflict resolution.

During assigned shifts, the supervisor will effectively coordinate hospital activities in collaboration with department directors, adhering to established hospital policies, procedures, and protocols. They will act as a representative of hospital administration and seek assistance as needed.


Work Schedule:

This is a PRN position for night shifts (7 PM - 7 AM), with a minimum commitment of four shifts in a six-week schedule, including one major and one minor holiday per year.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Facilitate effective communication and identify issues while bridging gaps for staff and end-users.
  • Understand colleagues' priorities and develop interdepartmental relationships.
  • Deliver clinical practice in alignment with the hospital's mission, vision, and values.
  • Work independently while following written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the biophysical and spiritual aspects of the patient population served.
  • Exhibit effective communication skills, empathy, and positive regard for all patients, families, and coworkers.
  • Comply with organizational policies, procedures, protocols, and regulations.
  • Implement standardized PPE protocols for infection prevention.
  • Attend departmental meetings and review minutes regularly.
  • Provide accurate handoff communication to healthcare providers per policy.
  • Maintain current licensure and fulfill annual education requirements.
  • Exhibit flexibility in scheduling to meet patient and community needs.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes.
  • Conduct rounding in clinical areas every two hours.
  • Assess staffing needs across patient care units and manage personnel accordingly.
  • Utilize sound judgment in decision-making to ensure quality care.
  • Provide feedback to department managers for evaluation purposes.
  • Monitor patient care activities and address any issues that arise.
  • Act as a liaison between patient care services and other hospital departments.
  • Respond to patient complaints and escalate issues to the Administrator On-Call when necessary.
  • Support staff and families during crisis situations while maintaining composure.
  • Procure necessary supplies after hours as required.
  • Assist management by identifying needs and issues within the department.
  • Maintain familiarity with organizational functions and ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  • Assist clinically in various patient care areas as needed.
  • Promote teamwork among staff.
  • Demonstrate professionalism during peak activity periods.
  • Conduct daily staffing meetings and manage weekend coverage.
  • Complete staffing documentation accurately.
  • Ensure proper communication regarding staffing changes.
  • Understand and follow emergency protocols and procedures.
  • Document and address behavioral issues in accordance with policy.

Patient Satisfaction:

Proactively address problems and strive for satisfactory resolutions. Follow up on complaints promptly and maintain professional relations with patients and families.

  • Conduct thorough investigations of issues with proper documentation.

Position Qualifications:

Certifications: Registered Nurse Licensure required.

Experience: Minimum of three years of relevant work experience. Graduate of an approved discipline-specific program.
