Position Overview:
This role acts as a pivotal technical expert, offering support, continuous education, and training to departmental staff with minimal oversight. The incumbent will contribute to the formulation of protocols and procedures, ensuring adherence to compliance standards while interpreting procedural intentions as necessary. This position is responsible for overseeing workflow and evaluating staff performance to guarantee alignment with established policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities:
- (40%)* Clinical Laboratory Technical Specialist: Engage in the analysis and processing of biological samples, manage workload, and establish testing protocols. Monitor productivity and workflow to meet turnaround time benchmarks.
- (20%)* Assess the appropriateness of patient results and quality control metrics, entering findings into the Laboratory Information System while adhering to critical notification policies.
- (20%)* Maintain inventory levels, reorder necessary reagents, and ensure safe disposal of biohazardous materials. Responsible for the upkeep and troubleshooting of laboratory instruments.
- (20%)* Serve as the primary technical resource for equipment-related matters, including quality control, calibration, and maintenance. Provide practical training for new hires and during procedural updates.
Certifications and Licensures:
- MT: Medical Technologist ASCP
- CT: Cytotechnologist ASCP or equivalent
- HT: Histotechnologist ASCP or equivalent
Required Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology or a related field with national MLS certification.
Additional Information:
- Monitor compliance with supply usage guidelines and assist in departmental performance enhancement.
- Provide input for scheduling and staffing needs.
- May assume leadership responsibilities in the absence of management.
- Perform other assigned duties as required.
Experience and Skills:
- Demonstrated leadership abilities to effectively guide a team.
- Two to three years of relevant experience as a Medical Technologist, Cytotechnologist, or Histotechnologist.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and effective communication.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Ability to manage stressful situations, maintain mobility within the facility, and perform job functions as outlined. Must be capable of handling multiple tasks and maintaining regular attendance.
