About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Propulsion Development Lead to join our team at Relativity Space. As a key member of our Propulsion Engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the development of our next-generation rocket propulsion systems.

Your primary focus will be on driving engine system trades, managing engine interfaces, and negotiating requirements to optimize for the vehicle. You will also be responsible for supporting engine system development, analysis, and simulation, as well as tool development and testing.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on complex systems development and test environments, and to apply your expertise in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics to drive innovation and growth.

We are looking for a strong leader who can mentor and guide a team of engineers, and who is passionate about developing cutting-edge propulsion systems. About the Team

The Propulsion Engineering team at Relativity Space is responsible for designing, building, and testing the engines that will power our Terran R launch vehicle. We are a dynamic and innovative team that is passionate about developing the next generation of rocket propulsion systems.

About You

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Propulsion Development Lead who has a strong background in rocket propulsion systems, and a proven track record of leading teams and driving results. If you have a passion for developing cutting-edge propulsion systems, and a strong desire to make a meaningful contribution to the aerospace industry, we encourage you to apply.

  • Bachelor's degree in a science, engineering, technology, or mathematics field
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, preferably in a complex system development and/or test environment
  • 2+ years of direct experience with liquid-propellant rocket engines in a simulation, test, system engineering, or other development role
  • Experience applying engineering fundamentals in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics
  • Experience driving to deliver on ambitious schedules, even and especially if unconventional and creative solutions are necessary to do so
  • Strong leadership potential, which could be demonstrated e.g. through mentoring, managing complex interdisciplinary projects, supporting continuous improvement of the people around you, or participating in growing your team through hiring

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Prior experience leading teams
  • Working knowledge of fluid components such as valves and instrumentation
  • Working knowledge of engine subsystems such as combustion devices and turbomachinery

Hiring Range: $138,000-$169,000 USD
