About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our team at Acorn Product Development. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of complex mechanical systems and products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers in the design and development of products with multiple powered degrees of freedom.
  • Design, build, and test systems and critical components to ensure high-quality and reliability.
  • Brainstorm and compare potential product architectures against client metrics and requirements.
  • Perform critical engineering analyses and tests from concept evaluations to production verification.
  • Assist clients in defining product specifications, schedules, and resource planning.
  • Manage project budget, schedule, and deliverables as the primary point of contact with clients.
Requirements
  • BSME degree required, MSME degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of technical system-level design experience.
  • Mechatronics expertise, including motors, bearings, gear trains, belt drives, and sensors.
  • Experience with motion control hardware, including motors and position sensors.
  • Experience with end effector design is a plus.
  • Multiple projects designed, fabricated, and tested.
  • Automation experience for industrial applications and manufacturing lines.
  • Hands-on system bring-up and integration with a cross-functional team.
  • ME analysis experience in kinematics, structural, thermal, and tolerances.
  • Materials and component selection expertise.
  • Proficient in Solidworks CAD and FEA.
  • Project Management experience leading a cross-functional team.
  • Experience with life science instrument and/or medical device design is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Client interface capability and experience.
  • Hands-on practical performance in shop/lab work.
  • Design for manufacturability (high/low volume).
  • Project and technical reporting.
  • Understanding of ISO is a plus.
