Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Financial Aid Advisor/Student Employment Coordinator to join our team at Southwestern Oregon Community College. This is a full-time, classified position that will be responsible for managing the placement and payment functions of the Federal Work Study, General Student Employment, and Athletic Work Study programs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate all aspects of the student employment programs, exercising professional judgment as necessary.
  • Develop and maintain student employment policies and procedures, as well as forms and orientations for student employees and employers.
  • Monitor financial aid award reports for award changes and provide advice and guidance in employment counseling.
  • Conduct training sessions for supervisors and mediate conflicts between students and supervisors.
  • Process student employment new hire paperwork, including W4 and I9 forms, and process monthly payroll and fund expenditure reconciliations.
  • Maintain the student employment database and job descriptions, and approve all positions and supervisors in the College's database systems.
  • Work collaboratively with payroll and financial aid to reconcile student employment records and related assessment and reporting.
  • Maintain work study program data and end-of-year federal reporting, and ensure compliance with applicable local, state, and federal laws, policies, and regulations.
Requirements
  • Associates degree required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related work experience, including at least two years' experience in financial aid operations and administration.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, using the English language.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, including community members, students, faculty, and staff.
  • Ability to follow established procedures and work independently to accomplish those procedures.
  • Ability to manage a flexible work schedule with self-discipline, including travel, various hours, and possible weekends/evenings.
  • Exhibit a high level of computer literacy, sufficient to use software such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Jenzabar and PowerFaids experience.
  • Experience in career counseling or employment guidance work.
