The Earth and Planets Laboratory (EPL), part of the Carnegie Institution for Science, is seeking applications for postdoctoral research fellowships. Our facility in Washington, DC, offers multiple independent research opportunities in a collaborative environment focused on a variety of scientific disciplines.
At EPL, our scientists conduct cutting-edge observational, experimental, and theoretical research across numerous fields, including but not limited to astronomy, cosmochemistry, data science, experimental petrology, geobiology, geochemistry, geodynamics, geophysics, mineral physics, planetary science, and the physics and chemistry of materials under extreme conditions. We encourage applicants whose primary research interests align with these areas to apply.
New fellows will become part of a vibrant community comprising approximately 25 postdoctoral researchers and 30 staff and research scientists dedicated to exploring the origins and evolution of Earth and other planetary bodies, as well as materials subjected to extreme environments. QualificationsApplicants must possess a Ph.D. in a relevant discipline by the commencement of the fellowship. The Carnegie Postdoctoral Fellowships are awarded annually, with flexible start dates. The selection process will prioritize research achievements, potential for future contributions, originality and feasibility of the proposed research, independence, and alignment with ongoing scientific endeavors at EPL.
