Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Aerospace Engineer to lead our Communication Systems team at NASA. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing communication systems for our Orion project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on communication systems, including antenna theory, baseband processor, receivers, and low noise amplifiers.
  • Lead communication engineering projects and teams to present problems and resolutions to program management.
  • Plan and implement radio frequency hardware development, integration, and testing at the subsystem, system, and end-to-end levels.
  • Manage and integrate the efforts of all Communication subsystem teams, including civil servants and contractors.
  • Understand and analyze the performance of visiting vehicle systems and their integration into the overall Orion Communication system.
  • Lead and conduct activities required to integrate Communication systems with KSC launch processing, Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) ground and satellite services, Gateway interfaces, and Spectrum Analysis team.
  • Coordinate Orion C/T mission support and interface with other systems and Flight Operations teams.
  • Lead/support communication system anomaly investigations and support all C/T problem resolution teams to properly disposition problems and non-conformances, and assure long-term subsystem supportability.
  • Responsible to the Orion project on a day-to-day basis regarding cost, schedule, and technical issues and concerns.

Requirements

To qualify for this position, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as engineering, physical science, mathematics, life science, or computer science.
  • Have at least one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level, including experience in communication systems, antenna theory, baseband processor, receivers, and low noise amplifiers.
  • Have experience leading communication engineering projects and teams, and planning and implementing radio frequency hardware development, integration, and testing.
  • Have experience managing and integrating the efforts of all Communication subsystem teams, including civil servants and contractors.
  • Have experience understanding and analyzing the performance of visiting vehicle systems and their integration into the overall Orion Communication system.
  • Have experience leading and conducting activities required to integrate Communication systems with KSC launch processing, Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) ground and satellite services, Gateway interfaces, and Spectrum Analysis team.
