Research Facilities Coordinator

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Facilities Coordinator to join our team at Montana Tech. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing equipment installation and maintenance in multiple research laboratories at our Butte main campus.
Key Responsibilities
Provide prompt support for equipment placement, installation, commissioning, operation, decommissioning, and disposal.
Assess and address electrical and utility installation needs in laboratories and pilot plant areas; coordinate with Montana Tech Facilities Department or external contractors as required to ensure prompt response to work orders.
Develop and manage a preventive maintenance program for each research laboratory.
Oversee safety and security in designated research and teaching laboratories.
Maintain an inventory of research spaces.
Requirements
A degree or certificate in engineering or technology or a combination of experience and education or equivalent.
Minimum 3 years of experience in supervising the installation and maintenance of process equipment and instrumentation, with expertise in electrical, plumbing, and control systems.
Demonstrated knowledge of, experience with, and willingness to enforce general laboratory and chemical safety & hygiene protocols.
Proven ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and collaborate with research faculty, students, physical plant personnel, and external contractors.
Proficiency in completing equipment installation and maintenance tasks, including assessing and resolving electrical and piping issues for laboratory machinery, process equipment, and instrumentation.
Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to organize and catalog data for equipment and laboratory inventory.
Proficiency in the use of hand tools, power tools, and equipment for installing and repairing equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant engineering discipline (e.g., electrical, mechanical, chemical, or materials engineering).
Experience with chemical inventory management, including the use of software or apps.
Experience in the design, installation, and maintenance of process instrumentation and control sensors, controllers, and final control elements, with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, control diagrams, and maintenance manuals.
