Key Responsibilities


The Clinical Nurse (RN) is responsible for coordinating nursing care, which includes direct patient care, patient and family education, and managing transitions of care.

The RN upholds professional nursing standards across various settings and throughout the continuum of care to address the needs of patients and their families.

Operating within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, the RN is accountable for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all aspects of nursing care for assigned patients.


Professional Standards:
The ANA Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice form the foundation for RN practice. The RN demonstrates leadership through roles such as preceptor, informal leadership positions, and participation in quality improvement initiatives. The RN delegates patient care based on skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal responsibility, and resource availability. The RN must possess strong communication skills, be adept in mentoring and teaching, and may engage in committees or projects.

Some positions may require the RN to utilize their personal vehicle as part of their job responsibilities.

Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required.


All entry-level associate degree registered nurses must provide documented evidence of completing a baccalaureate degree in nursing within five years from their RN start date.


Registered nurses with an RN start date prior to the specified date must provide evidence of program completion as per the degree requirement in effect at the time of hire.


Additional Qualifications:


Preferred candidates will have at least one year of RN experience in a relevant care setting or one year of LPN experience at Mayo Clinic.

Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.

Experience in a collaborative team environment is advantageous.

Proficiency in computer skills is required, with prior experience in electronic medical record systems preferred.

Ability to work during daytime hours, with flexibility to meet staffing needs, is necessary.

Capability to adapt to unpredictable situations in the workplace is essential.

Demonstrated leadership, effective communication, and strong critical thinking skills are required.


Licensure or Certification:
Current RN license in accordance with state regulations is mandatory.

In specific states, maintaining Basic Life Support (BLS) competency is required.

Additional state licensure and/or specialty certifications may be necessary based on the work area.
