Position Overview

The role of the Respiratory Care Services professional involves performing therapeutic clinical procedures as outlined in the Respiratory Care Services scope of practice. This position is situated within an adult outpatient rehabilitation environment, contributing to the Pulmonary Rehabilitation team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct one-on-one evaluations with patients to assess and educate them on their specific respiratory needs, including medication management and supplemental oxygen requirements.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to monitor and support patients during group exercise sessions.
  • Make informed recommendations regarding home respiratory equipment, ensuring proper setup, safety, and functionality.
  • Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of respiratory equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Administer respiratory medications as required and provide comprehensive education to patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Document all patient interactions and care provided in the medical record accurately.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery.
  • In emergency situations, execute CPR and bag-mask ventilation as necessary.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to the daily operations of pulmonary rehabilitation and graduate programs.

Qualifications

Completion of a two-year AMA accredited respiratory care program (Associate's Degree or equivalent) or current enrollment in an AMA approved Respiratory Care Program, with eligibility for registry. Certification by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required for graduates.

This position involves interaction with patients of various ages, their families, physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals, and is performed in all areas of the hospital.
