Key Responsibilities:
  • Efficiently conducts a range of nuclear medicine diagnostic and therapeutic examinations, including both general and cardiac procedures.
  • Reviews patient medical histories to gather essential clinical data, including lab results and physician directives, ensuring accuracy in examinations.
  • Administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients, adhering to proper venipuncture protocols and radiation safety measures. Dispenses Nuclear Pharmacy medications according to physician orders.
  • Communicates relevant patient history to the appropriate medical staff and departments.
  • Processes images as instructed, ensuring accurate identification and labeling of images with patient details and scan specifics.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory standards and accurately enters patient and study data into the radiology information system, documenting billing codes for services rendered.
  • Identifies and addresses equipment performance issues, conducting quality assurance tests and calibration as needed, reporting any malfunctions to the appropriate personnel.
  • Assists with patient positioning and transportation, requiring physical lifting and maneuvering while following safety protocols.
  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, understanding the principles of growth and development across the lifespan.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
  • Nuclear Medicine Tech (N) registration from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) must be obtained within one year, or
  • Nuclear Medicine Technologist certification (CNMT) from the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB), and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers from the American Heart Association (AHA) must be acquired within six months.
Education Required:
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Nuclear Medicine.
Experience Required:
  • No prior experience necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
  • Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and radiation safety protocols.
  • Familiarity with Radioactive Materials Program Requirements.
  • Proficient in IV and venipuncture techniques.
  • Basic ECG interpretation and pharmacological knowledge.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills for effective collaboration with physicians, patients, and team members.
  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Intermediate proficiency in computer applications.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Must be capable of sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, and twisting throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs. overhead, and carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform sliding transfers of 150 lbs. with assistance.
  • Potential exposure to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards, as well as blood and body fluids; appropriate personal protective equipment must be utilized.
  • Clear speech, vision, and hearing are essential.
  • Operates all necessary equipment to fulfill job responsibilities.
