POSITION OVERVIEW:

Marathon Pipe Line LLC (MPL) is dedicated to the safe transportation and storage of crude oil, refined products, and natural gas across the United States. Our Pipeline Controllers operate from a centralized Operations Center, collaborating with a skilled shift team of fellow Controllers and support Specialists to manage MPL's pipeline systems. The team works in a 24/7 operational framework, with comprehensive training provided to new Controllers before they begin remotely overseeing specific pipeline systems during their shifts. This training combines practical experience and classroom instruction, equipping Controllers with the skills necessary to safely manage operations in accordance with established protocols using a computer-based interface. Pipeline Controllers gain extensive industry knowledge, build professional relationships, and have opportunities for career advancement within the organization, including roles in scheduling, commercial operations, finance, field operations, health, safety, and compliance. A commitment of five years to the Operations Center is required due to the extensive training and qualification process. Additionally, Controllers must reside within a 60-minute commute of their assigned Operations Center location.

This role is full-time and follows a rotating 2-2-3 schedule to ensure continuous operations. Controllers will alternate between day and night shifts every four weeks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Utilize a computer-based user interface or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system to monitor and manage pipeline operations.
  • Adhere to safety protocols while overseeing pipeline systems during standard operations, including start-up, shutdown, flow adjustments, and product transitions.
  • Communicate effectively with field operations and third-party control rooms regarding operational changes or alarm investigations.
  • Maintain pipeline systems according to a predetermined schedule to ensure timely delivery of products to customers.
  • Identify and respond to abnormal operating conditions, applying training and procedures to analyze data and guide personnel in response actions.
  • Seek to enhance knowledge of operated systems and general Operations Center processes, using insights to propose improvements and support colleagues.
  • Minimal travel is required for this position.
SHIFT REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift that alternates between day and night.
  • Availability to work weekends, as Controllers are scheduled to work every other weekend.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED with at least one of the following:
    • 2+ years of experience in Operations or Scheduling within the Oil and Gas sector.
    • 4+ years of Active Duty Military experience.

  • Associate's degree in Process Technology (must be completed by the time of hire).

OR

  • Bachelor's degree (must be completed by the time of hire).

Preferred Qualifications:

Additional Requirements:
  • Basic computer skills are essential.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and pass a color vision test upon hire.
  • Must successfully pass a drug test and background check.
