Position Overview
The Ambulatory Care Nurse plays a vital role in delivering high-quality healthcare within an outpatient setting. This position involves utilizing the nursing process to ensure a collaborative approach to patient management. The nurse is dedicated to enhancing and maintaining patient well-being by executing the nursing process, working closely with healthcare providers, and offering both physical and emotional support to patients and their families. The nurse practices in accordance with the relevant nursing regulations and organizational policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcomes patients and prepares them for their appointments, including taking comprehensive health histories and identifying any concerning conditions for the healthcare provider. Measures vital signs and conducts necessary screenings.
- Safely administers medications as prescribed, including intramuscular, subcutaneous, and oral forms, while monitoring and documenting patient responses to treatments.
- Assists in the preparation of medical supplies and equipment, supporting the healthcare provider during examinations and procedures.
- Ensures accurate and timely documentation in patient records, facilitating the appropriate flow of information.
- Aids in scheduling diagnostic tests and treatments, coordinating referrals to specialists, and obtaining necessary authorizations as directed.
- Collects and processes laboratory specimens, retrieves lab results, and enters relevant information into the electronic medical record (EMR) as required.
- Communicates test results and follow-up appointments to patients, directing them to nursing or medical staff for educational needs.
- Reviews medications, treatment plans, and post-visit instructions with patients and their families.
- Manages incoming calls, directing inquiries to the appropriate nursing or medical personnel.
- Prepares for patient visits by reviewing EMR data, including patient history, and proactively ordering necessary tests and labs in line with clinic protocols.
- Completes essential documentation (e.g., FMLA, DME, Home Health orders) and secures required signatures from healthcare providers.
Essential Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Active Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the relevant state.
- Proficient in basic typing and word processing; strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a medical office setting.
