Job Overview:
Engage in the repair, restoration, and reconstruction of railroad rolling stock (train cars) in compliance with Federal and Company standards and specifications.
This role will focus on welding and fabrication while also being open to learning and executing tasks in carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, painting, and HVAC systems.
This position involves maintaining and reconstructing train cars from the wheelsets up.Benefits Offered:

Repair, restore, and construct railroad car rolling stock, including but not limited to windows, walls, HVAC systems, water and waste systems, woodworking, metal fabrication, electrical work, painting, and plumbing.
Conduct routine maintenance on generator railcars.Manufacture and repair essential parts and components related to steam and diesel locomotives, historic railroad passenger cars, and freight cars while working in a dynamic environment with varying projects and team members.
Fabricate parts and components from scratch as required for diverse applications and projects.Interpret verbal and written instructions and specifications, including reading blueprints while planning and outlining the scope of work.
Perform daily and periodic equipment inspections to identify necessary repairs and maintenance. Assist in the repair and installation of HVAC air conditioning and heating systems on railcars. Ensure compliance with GSMR procedures, safety, and operating rules.
Collaborate with other departments as part of a team to create positive experiences for passengers and guests.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate should possess a willingness to learn and gain additional experience and/or certifications. Skills required include woodworking, metal fabrication, welding, basic plumbing, basic electrical work, painting, HVAC, and demolition.
Effective communication skills in both written and spoken English are essential.
Ability to remain on your feet for up to 12 hours and lift up to 50 lbs.Capability to ascend/descend train steps/ladders and crawl on, under, and around locomotives and passenger cars while performing necessary maintenance tasks.
Physical Requirements:
Good balance and equilibrium are necessary to walk on moving trains, as well as on graveled, uneven, and/or sloped surfaces that may be wet or slippery while carrying items such as flashlights, tools, and/or parts.
Must have strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask while prioritizing workload with a practical, flexible, and innovative approach to work.Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personalities and function efficiently as a team member.
Must have the physical ability/agility to climb, crawl, stoop, and bend in the performance of assigned tasks.Must be able to work in confined spaces.
Work Environment:
Work on and off the train in varied terrain and all weather conditions during both daylight and nighttime hours. Work within various shop settings, including the railyard. May be required to work in different locations and adverse weather conditions to repair equipment.
