Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly experienced General Manager to oversee the daily operations of a major tourist railroad in Canon City, Colorado. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring the highest level of guest service, operational excellence, safety, and profitability. This position requires strong leadership in both operational and maintenance functions, with a focus on growth and continuous improvement. The General Manager will be responsible for leading a talented team of managers, to ensure effective leadership in all departments. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

​•​Oversee all day-to-day operations of the railroad, ensuring smooth and efficient service for guests.

​•​Lead a diverse team, including operations, guest services, and maintenance personnel, to achieve high performance and ensure a positive guest experience.

​•​Develop and implement strategies to enhance customer satisfaction and increase ridership, while maintaining safety and operational standards.

​•​Manage financial aspects of the operation, including budgeting, cost control, labor management, and profitability.

​•​Ensure all safety protocols and regulations are strictly followed, with continuous improvement in safety measures.

​•​Monitor and maintain train schedules, service quality, and facility upkeep, ensuring all areas operate at peak efficiency, ensuring every element of the guest experience radiates the best of the Royal Gorge Route Railroad brand experience.

​•​Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and growth among staff members.

​•​Work closely with the maintenance team to ensure that rail equipment are kept in excellent working condition and any mechanical issues are addressed in a timely manner.

​•​Identify opportunities for growth and improvement, including service offerings, customer experiences, and partnerships.

​•​Represent the railroad in the community and with key stakeholders, maintaining strong public and industry relationships.

 

Qualifications:

​•​10+ years of experience in a leadership role, preferably in large-scale, national tourism, rail, hospitality, or transportation industries.

​•​Strong background in operations management, particularly in a high-traffic, guest-facing environment.

​•​Experience managing maintenance teams and ensuring compliance with safety standards.

​•​Proven track record of driving profitability while maintaining excellent customer service.

​•​Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills.

​•​Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment.

​•​Physically fit, with the ability to navigate railway environments and engage in hands-on problem-solving when necessary.

​•​A passion for railroads, tourism, and enhancing guest experiences is a plus.
