Position Title: Dining Services Attendant
Location: Dartmouth College
Position Purpose: Under close supervision, this role involves the setup and arrangement of serving lines and dining areas within college dining facilities. Responsibilities include serving food from counters and steam tables to patrons, managing leftover food items, and ensuring cleanliness of kitchen utensils and equipment, as well as the dining area upon shift completion. This position also assists with daily catering orders.
Work Schedule: This role entails a nine-month commitment at one location and a three-month commitment at another.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Six months of relevant experience in food service operations or equivalent. Preference for experience in institutional food service.
- Skills: Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, basic understanding of cleanliness procedures and sanitation regulations, and a willingness to learn food protection and handling methods.
- Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication skills and ability to apply customer relations procedures.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods and lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Flexibility to work varied shifts and overtime is necessary.
Commitment: A dedication to diversity and serving the needs of a diverse community is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
Duties:
- Transport trays and containers of food and supplies from the kitchen to the dining area.
- Stock and arrange food, dishes, silverware, and other supplies at serving stations.
- Serve food from counters and steam tables, including salads, vegetables, meats, and desserts.
- Prepare hot and cold beverages.
- Replenish food and condiments at serving stations.
- Maintain cleanliness of tables and the dining area according to sanitary procedures.
- Clean and polish counters and equipment, removing food waste post-meals.
- Learn and adhere to safety precautions and proper food handling procedures.
- Operate cash registers, itemizing and totaling customer purchases.
- Handle cash and payment transactions, ensuring accurate change is provided.
- Monitor for potential shoplifting and apply prevention techniques.
- Count cash drawer and manage register operations at the start and end of shifts.
- Assist with daily catering orders, including food packaging and delivery.
- Set up and arrange tables and decorations for events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
