As a Patient Financial Counselor, you will play a crucial role in helping patients navigate their financial obligations and options related to healthcare costs.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist patients in understanding their financial responsibilities and available options for healthcare expenses.
  • Provide guidance on Medicaid and other assistance programs to help patients manage their insurance coverage and payment plans.

Work Schedule:
Full-time | 80 hours bi-weekly
Day shift | 8-hour shifts | 8am-4:30pm

Compensation and Benefits:
Starting at $18.90 per hour, commensurate with experience
Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, PTO, retirement plans, and employee discounts

Qualifications:
  • Associate's degree in business or a healthcare-related field, or equivalent experience in healthcare or collections preferred.
  • Certification in Hospital Presumptive Eligibility (HPE) and MNsure Certification required, with annual recertification.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite and other relevant software.
  • Strong research skills regarding insurance policies.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple tasks with precision and attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with billing and collection principles, including relevant laws and regulations in healthcare collections.
  • Effective communication skills in English; bilingual abilities in Spanish or Somali are advantageous.

Department Overview:

The Patient Financial Counselor is tasked with engaging with patients, either virtually or in person, to provide essential information about expected costs, insurance coverage, payment options, and financial assistance programs.

In-depth knowledge of Medicaid and its associated programs is vital to effectively meet the needs of our patients.

The role aims to manage accounts in a manner that enhances patient experience while minimizing outstanding debts. The counselor will support and uphold patient safety and other relevant practices as necessary, demonstrating Family Centered Care principles in all interactions.
