Internship Program Overview:

The Northrop Grumman Military Internship Program (NG-MIP) is an authorized SkillBridge initiative under Department of Defense guidelines. This program offers transitioning service members the chance to acquire valuable civilian work experience through a tailored internship during the final months of their military service, lasting up to 180 days. Participants in SkillBridge are not compensated by Northrop Grumman, as they continue to receive military pay and benefits.

Internship Responsibilities:

Northrop Grumman Corporation has established the Military Internship Program (DoD SkillBridge) in accordance with DoDI guidance. During this program, service members will be on-site at their host company, undertaking an individual internship in an entry to mid-level role. The service member will receive on-the-job training, supporting a work schedule equivalent to 40 hours per week. Below are the program's Goals, Objectives, and Outcomes.

Goals: To equip transitioning service members with essential job skills training during the concluding phase of their military commitment, with the aim of facilitating a transition to a full-time role upon completion of the training.

Objectives: Service members who successfully complete the internship will emerge as highly skilled, capable candidates, aligned with the organization's specific needs and ready to contribute to the Northrop Grumman mission from day one.

Outcome: To provide transitioning service members with a fulfilling opportunity to become part of the Northrop Grumman workforce.

  • Must have served a minimum of 180 days on active duty
  • Must be within 12 months of separation or retirement
  • Must receive an honorable discharge
  • Must have completed any service TAPS/TGPS
  • Must have participated in an ethics briefing within the last 12 months
  • Must have received written authorization from the Unit Commander to participate in the DoD SkillBridge Program prior to the internship commencement.

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems has an opening for a Principal Electronics Engineer (Field Support – Network Communications) to support our Avionics Integration West organization.

Training and Assignment: The selected candidate will undergo training in Rancho Bernardo, CA, with a final assignment location on Whidbey Island, Washington for a minimum of two years.

As a Principal Electronics Engineer (Field Support – Network Communications), you will be pivotal in the field, integrating, deploying, and troubleshooting electronic systems and solutions that enhance safety. This role encompasses testing and analyzing various electronic equipment and systems, including Line of Sight (LOS) and Beyond Line of Sight Communications (BLOS), Data Links, SATCOM, UHF Radios, and other RF communications, along with various networking and control equipment.

The ideal candidate will apply engineering principles and techniques to support the Mission Systems Integration Product Team (IPT) in the integration, testing, and delivery of Communications and Networking systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide field support, product integration, systems troubleshooting, and repair of various aircraft and ground systems in a military flight line environment.
  • Conduct reviews and analyses of supplier design data.
  • Define functional test requirements, including acceptance, qualification, and system integration.
  • Test, maintain, and integrate Network and Communications equipment and systems, circuitry components, and control and test equipment.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, system administrators, maintainers, and other support personnel to troubleshoot and resolve any communications and network-related issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a STEM field with 5 years of relevant engineering experience; OR a Master's Degree in STEM with 3 years of relevant experience; OR a PhD in STEM with no experience required.
  • Understanding of the System of Systems concept.
  • Experience with coding and scripting languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to learn data analysis processes and techniques.
  • Capability to perform System Integration and articulate complex technical concepts to program leadership.
  • Experience in System Integration.
  • Familiarity with communication terminals and equipment.
  • Experience with network equipment and capabilities.
  • Experience with Cross Domain Solutions and encryption devices.
  • Experience in a development environment.
  • Experience with post-flight analysis.
  • Experience supporting large-scale test efforts.
  • Active, in-scope DoD Top Secret Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain SCI access.
  • Willingness to support assignment at the location for a minimum of 24 months.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in aerospace development, production, or operations.
  • CCNA / CCNP Certification.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
  • Experience with test equipment such as network analyzers and spectrum analyzers.

Salary Range: $92,600 - $160,900

This salary range serves as a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers various factors when determining base salary offers, including the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills, and current market conditions.
