Position Overview:

We are in search of a dedicated and experienced Chief People and Culture Officer who will play a pivotal role in nurturing our rapidly expanding non-profit. As a vital member of the Executive Team, you will spearhead initiatives to cultivate an inclusive workplace culture, refine human resources policies with a focus on equity, and enhance our hiring and retention strategies. This is a unique opportunity to invest in our team, strengthen our organizational culture, and align our human resources practices with our mission and values.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with team members and the board to intentionally shape the organizational culture and values in alignment with our mission.
  • Ensure that Massachusetts Clean Energy's culture embodies its mission, fostering a welcoming and supportive environment for all employees.
  • Lead the identification and documentation of our organizational values, revisiting them periodically.
  • Create inclusive processes that allow all staff to contribute to organizational decision-making and strategy.
  • Advance and oversee organizational policies and practices that reflect best practices in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).
  • Work with staff, board members, and DEI consultants to assess and enhance current policies and practices, ensuring robust support for our diverse team.
  • Facilitate training and support to deepen the team's understanding of DEI concepts, including unconscious bias and cultural considerations.
  • Manage the recruitment and onboarding processes for new staff and interns, ensuring a diverse candidate pool.
  • Enhance employee retention and satisfaction through the development of strategies that promote professional growth.
  • Oversee the performance management system, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and employee development.
  • Serve as a mediator to address staff concerns and foster healthy communication within the team.
  • Develop and implement an equitable compensation model, collaborating with staff and consultants.
  • Ensure compliance with employment laws and manage HR-related risks to protect our employees.

Qualifications:

  • A strong commitment to the mission of Massachusetts Clean Energy, with a focus on equitable clean energy access and environmental justice.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in human resources, particularly within the non-profit sector.
  • Proven ability to integrate DEI best practices into organizational frameworks.
  • Experience in hiring, training, and retaining diverse teams while fostering inclusive workplace cultures.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Experience in hybrid work environments, effectively managing remote and in-person teams.
  • Ability to coach staff in constructive feedback and conflict resolution.
  • Experience working with diverse teams and communities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a track record of effective decision-making.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
