Position Summary:
Under the guidance of the AimHire Division Director, the Employment Specialist will deliver employment support services through the US Department of Labor funded "Homeless Veterans' Reintegration Program" (HVRP). This grant-funded role focuses on facilitating the reintegration of homeless veterans into the workforce by connecting them with sustainable employment or training opportunities. The Employment Specialist will provide a range of client-centered services to assist or link homeless veterans to essential resources such as housing, medical care, behavioral health support, and basic needs within their communities. The target is to serve a significant number of veterans annually, managing a caseload of no more than 35 individuals at any given time.

Key Responsibilities:
Employment and Training Services:

  1. Evaluate participant employability by assessing their education, work history, resources, and motivation.
  2. Deliver job readiness training, including resume and cover letter development, mock interview preparation, networking, and technology literacy.
  3. Create individualized Employment or Training Case Plans to outline participant goals and necessary resources.
  4. Assist participants in obtaining relevant training and certifications to enhance employment prospects.
  5. Facilitate enrollment in city/state-based services, such as the Department of Employment Services.
  6. Collaborate with the Job Developer & Outreach Specialist to connect participants with job opportunities offering sustainable wages.
  7. Support participants during their initial employment placement with ongoing coaching and follow-up.
  8. Conduct retention and follow-up services after participants exit the program.
Case Management:
  1. Assess essential needs, including housing and health barriers to stable employment.
  2. Guide participants in navigating social services through referrals and connections to community-based resources.
  3. Develop housing goal plans and assist participants in addressing housing crises through veteran-specific programs.
  4. Collaborate with other case managers and service providers to ensure comprehensive support for participants.
Administrative Duties:
  1. Input necessary data into case management software and maintain participant files in compliance with program policies.
  2. Record and report key metrics, including job placements, training enrollments, and supportive service connections.
  3. Complete additional reporting as required by contract.
For Friendship Place:
  • Contribute to the planning and development of new projects related to participant services.
  • Assess participant safety and well-being, activating emergency services as needed.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with external agencies providing services to participants.
  • Engage in case meetings, staff meetings, and training sessions.
  • Assist with volunteer coordination when necessary.
  • Perform other assigned duties as required.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, human services, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or veterans preferred.
  • Experience in workforce development or supportive employment is a plus.

  • Professional demeanor and respect for participant confidentiality.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Bi-lingual skills are a plus.
Working Conditions:
The position involves a mix of office work and travel to meet with participants across the service area.

Physical Requirements:
The role requires the ability to sit for extended periods and perform some lifting (up to 20-25 lbs).

Background Checks:
Candidates must pass a criminal history background check and other required screenings.

A valid driver's license and personal vehicle are necessary for job responsibilities.

Compensation:
The starting salary is determined based on a step system, reflecting the candidate's qualifications and experience.
