Position Overview - Healthcare Patient Advocate

The Healthcare Patient Advocate will cultivate positive and professional relationships with patients and their families, healthcare providers, hospital personnel, community organization representatives, and visitors.

This role is essential in promoting access to healthcare services and ensuring the appropriate use of hospital and community resources. The advocate will conduct initial screening interviews for designated patients and, based on the outcomes, facilitate necessary interventions.

Key responsibilities include identifying available resources within the hospital and the community to support patient and family coping mechanisms, and assisting families in utilizing these services effectively.

The Healthcare Patient Advocate will serve as a vital resource and advocate for African American pregnant and postpartum women with infants up to 12 months old in the Washington, DC area, as part of a research initiative funded by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI).

Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree (Required)
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years in social services or a medical environment providing direct support to clients, patients, and their families (Required)
Required Skills and Knowledge

  • Sensitivity to individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures.
