Food Ordering Specialist

This role is responsible for planning and coordinating orders with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) for Contracting Entities (CE) participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP), Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP), and the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP).

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of state and federal regulations and be able to analyze and submit complex and large USDA Foods orders for eligible CEs. They will also be responsible for performing on-going maintenance activities in USDA Foods systems, managing and tracking entitlement, and providing recommendations to management.

This is a fast-paced, multi-faceted role that requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will be able to work independently with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, analyze, and submit highly complex and large USDA Foods orders for NSLP, SFSP, TEFAP, and CSFP to USDA for eligible CEs in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Perform on-going maintenance activities in USDA Foods systems, including creating catalogs, managing orders and requests, shipments and allocations, and analyzing system data.
  • Manage and track entitlement in the various systems for NSLP, SFSP, and TEFAP, and provide recommendations to management.
  • Assist with the collection, organization, and/or preparation of materials and reports in response to Public Information Requests, Management Evaluations, and audits.
  • Attend and present USDA Foods program ordering updates at conferences and events.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university and a minimum of four years of work experience administering a program interpreting and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations. They will also have experience preparing reports, summaries, and/or procedures and analyzing technical data.

The successful candidate will have strong knowledge of local, state, and federal laws related to the program area, public administration and management techniques, research techniques, and program management processes and techniques. They will also have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively in a team environment.
