Position Overview: The Legal & Risk Manager plays a crucial role in supporting the Corporate Counsel by overseeing claims against the organization, which may include personal injury, property damage, breach of contract, and employment-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in managing the Company’s insurance programs and risk management policies.
  • Possess a solid understanding of legal issues pertinent to construction contracts, such as indemnity, insurance coverage, risk transfer, and liability for delays.
  • Coordinate contract reviews with Corporate Counsel to ensure compliance with legal standards.
  • Oversee the Company's Subcontractor Program, including negotiation of subcontract terms and adherence to insurance requirements.
  • Support Corporate Counsel in various business transactions and ensure compliance with corporate and industry regulations.

Duties Include:

  • Manage litigation and claims related to personal injury, property damage, and employment law, including communication with claims adjusters.
  • Collaborate with project managers and stakeholders to gather necessary information for claims defense and assist with discovery processes.
  • Analyze loss control reports and develop action plans in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Oversee subcontractor prequalification and compliance initiatives.
  • Respond to inquiries from employees and managers regarding risk management matters.
  • Assist with licensing and compliance issues as directed by Corporate Counsel.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Construction Law environment.
  • Familiarity with legal concepts and processes relevant to the construction industry, including indemnity and workers' compensation.
  • A college degree is preferred.
  • Juris Doctor and active license in jurisdictions such as IL, NY, NJ, VA, CA, or AZ is preferred but not mandatory.
  • 3+ years of experience in claims and risk management is essential.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities effectively.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Familiarity with Collective Bargaining Agreements and labor issues is a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Compensation: $75,000 - $125,000 annually
