Capital Projects Manager

Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Capital Projects Manager to join our team at Duke University. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and coordinating facility capital improvement projects to ensure compliance with University procedures and standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate engineering services for Health System & School of Medicine construction projects and/or programs
  • Prepare and/or evaluate proposed engineering designs, develop performance specifications, and assist in the supervision of project and/or program activities
  • Provide assistance to members of the Duke community in planning proposed projects
  • Maintain liaison with Duke Health Administration and leadership to review relevant plans and assist in solving problems related to engineering designs
  • Prepare cost estimates and assist in identifying expenditures to establish project budgets
  • Inspect and evaluate construction projects to ensure compliance with established safety standards and specifications
  • Supervise the preparation of documents to ensure proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing
  • Utilizing program management software tools, prepare reports and analyses setting forth progress, adverse trends, and appropriate recommendations and/or conclusions
  • Recommend various personnel actions, including hiring, performance appraisal, promotions, transfers, and time off scheduling
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, or Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field of study
  • North Carolina Board of Architecture or Engineering License is preferred
  • Healthcare and Life Science/Research experience preferred
  • Minimum of five to ten years' experience in planning, design, and construction related to institutional and/or health care buildings and systems
Preferred Qualifications
  • Sufficient leadership skills in supervision of general construction as a contractor or owner's representative
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, and considerable knowledge of and experience in the use of computer software
  • Ability to be proactive and apply technical knowledge to improve deliverables, providing attention to detail to minimize errors
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with diverse groups of stakeholders
