Job Summary:
The News Producer produces the 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. newscasts Monday through Friday, overseeing all aspects of the newscast, including stacking the rundown, writing copy for stories, ordering graphics, coordinating live shots, and directing production staff, reporters, and photographers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prioritize, organize, supervise, and produce newscasts following the station brand and goals.
- Write clearly, concisely, and conversationally.
- Maintain a working knowledge of current events, community issues, and contacts.
- Develop original story ideas for daily newscasts.
- Collaborate with anchors and reporters on story treatment and gather information under deadline pressure.
- Facilitate teamwork among staff members working on daily newscasts.
- Able to accurately and calmly handle decision-making processes, especially in the control room.
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities, ensuring story accuracy and determining the best presentation of reports.
- Responsible for writing and posting stories and videos to the station's digital platforms.
- Ability to train new Producers in the same role.
- Regularly produce News documentaries, cut-ins, and other special programs, as assigned.
Qualifications:
- College degree in journalism or a related field required.
- Must hold a valid driver's license and be insurable.
- Imitative and attention to detail is required.
- Great grammar and ability to write clearly and accurately.
- Ability to work well under intense pressure and tight deadlines.
- Positive work atmosphere behavior.
- Ability to maintain up-to-date national and local news/weather knowledge.
- Ability to enterprise local hard-news stories.
- Computer knowledge including newsroom software, Microsoft applications, and Internet use.
- Knowledge of video and audio editing (Grass Valley Edius experience a plus).
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Salary: $60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
