The Lead Machine Operator plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our production processes. This position involves overseeing the startup, operation, and shutdown of various equipment, including the Ross, Tower, 60, ITX, powder coater, KK laminator, and Thermoplastic UD line.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the startup, operation, and shutdown of equipment, ensuring timely completion of production runs.
  • Assign tasks to crew members to ensure efficient production.
  • Verify settings and input materials using the ERP system to produce materials within specification.
  • Operate hoist, fork truck, pallet jack, and maintain daily inspections.
  • Set up and monitor materials during runs.
  • Stage material through barcoding and maintain accurate inventories.
  • Mix and test chemicals based on a formula/recipe for each product type.
  • Follow precise test procedures outlined in Barrday control documents.
  • Monitor quality and raise NCRs for non-conforming materials, working with Quality/Engineering to identify and implement resolutions.
  • Interact regularly with supervisors and others to provide status updates, input for planning, and feedback or concerns regarding safety, quality, productivity, and employee performance.
  • Complete and enter documentation in the ERP system during and at the end of production runs.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly work area, ensuring 5S is practiced and sustained in daily activities.
  • Ensure all equipment and work areas are clean and well-maintained.
  • Packages and labels materials per documentation requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including cross-training within the department and other areas of the plant.

Key Qualifications/Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent GED.
  • 2+ years of machine operator experience in a manufacturing production environment.
  • Dependable, effective team player able to delegate to and motivate others.
  • Excellent attention to detail, quality, and safety.
  • Competent math skills, including accuracy in basic functions such as multiplication and division, and working with conversion factors.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate verbally and in writing in English.
  • Ability to multitask and identify and solve problems within constrained timelines.
  • Moving, bending, pushing, and lifting capability up to 60 lbs.
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials.
  • Commitment to the assigned work schedule and willingness to work overtime as required.
  • Competent and comfortable using computers and the ERP system to input and access data.
  • Adherence to safety requirements, including the use of personal protective equipment.

Working Conditions:

  • Manufacturing setting with continuous periods of standing and walking required.
  • Considerable lifting and loading (with assistance of appropriate tools and machines).
  • Exposure to noise and chemical products in conditions where all appropriate protective equipment is available.
