Radiologic Imaging Specialist

Position Overview
The Radiologic Imaging Specialist is responsible for operating x-ray and auxiliary imaging equipment to capture high-quality diagnostic images. This role involves administering IV contrast and ensuring the maintenance and cleanliness of imaging equipment while adhering to required documentation protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- May rotate through various imaging modalities including CT Scan, Special Procedures, and Diagnostic Radiology, contingent upon training.
- Guides and positions patients for imaging procedures to achieve optimal diagnostic results as directed by the physician.
- Provides necessary patient immobilization devices to ensure accurate imaging.
- Selects appropriate technical factors tailored to each patient’s needs.
- Operates imaging equipment in accordance with the specific diagnostic procedures required.
- Reviews processed images to confirm they meet acceptable diagnostic standards and verifies them in the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).
- Practices sterile techniques to prevent cross-contamination.
- Keeps work areas clean and organized.
- Utilizes computer systems for data acquisition during CT and MRI procedures.
- Maintains comprehensive records of all imaging procedures in the Radiology Information System (RIS) as per established policies.
- Schedules imaging procedures as necessary.
- Collaborates with patients, staff, and physicians to enhance the overall patient experience.
- Continuously works to improve patient satisfaction scores.
- Offers services to minimize patient wait times for examinations.
- Assists in transporting patients when necessary to facilitate timely examinations.
- Confirms there are no contraindications for the administration of IV or oral contrast agents.
- Performs venipuncture using the appropriate gauge for CT/MRI examinations.
- Explains the IV contrast administration process in layman's terms and completes the necessary documentation.
- Employs proper flush techniques for existing IV lines.
- Utilizes power injectors for IV contrast administration.
- Recognizes and assists in managing reactions to contrast agents.
- Identifies and assists in addressing IV extravasations.
- Calculates contrast dosage based on patient weight.
- Assists physicians or Imaging Nurses in administering contrast materials.
- Maintains an adequate inventory of supplies necessary for the assigned imaging modality.
- Conducts all required Quality Control and Electro-Mechanical checks at specified intervals.
- May provide on-the-job training to other Technologists in CT and MRI, if qualified.
- Coordinates preventive maintenance of imaging equipment as needed.
- Transfers images digitally to appropriate workstations to expedite interpretations.
- Demonstrates proficiency in using PACS and RIS.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently lifts or moves objects.
- Occasionally carries items weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently pushes patients or objects weighing up to 200 pounds.
- Occasionally assists in moving patients or objects exceeding 150 pounds.
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology Program.
- New York State Department of Health licensure as a Radiologic Technologist.
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Registered Technologist (R.T.).
- A minimum of two years of experience as a Radiology Technologist, with competency in at least one modality: CT, MRI, or Special Procedures.
