The Family Support Specialist (FSS) is tasked with delivering comprehensive home visitation services to families facing significant challenges. The goal is to alleviate stressors that may contribute to child neglect or abuse while enhancing protective factors to foster healthy developmental outcomes for children.
Work Schedule: This position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, primarily Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, with occasional evening and weekend hours to meet the needs of families.
Key ResponsibilitiesService Delivery:
- The FSS will engage with families dealing with various stressors, including mental health challenges, economic instability, and domestic issues. Responsibilities include implementing program protocols and assessments to evaluate family stability and adjusting visitation frequency as necessary.
- Availability for families is crucial, with the FSS being on call 24/7. The typical caseload consists of 10 to 15 families, depending on their specific needs.
- Establishing and maintaining long-term relationships with families is essential, with enrollment ideally occurring before the child reaches three months of age and continuing until the child is three to five years old. Home visits will be conducted weekly, focusing on building trust and enhancing parenting skills.
- The FSS will develop and implement a personalized service plan for each family, reviewing progress at least every six months.
- Educating parents about child development and facilitating activities to support growth will be a key component of the role.
- Monitoring maternal health and ensuring regular medical check-ups for children will also be part of the responsibilities, including providing transportation when necessary.
- Acting as a supportive counselor, the FSS will offer informal guidance and refer families to professional counseling services as needed.
- Assist families in creating an Individual Family Support Plan within the first 45 days of service, with updates occurring at least every six months.
- Document all services provided, track compliance with service plans, and measure program effectiveness through outcome metrics.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development, which may include travel.
- Attend regular case management meetings and contribute to team discussions.
Staff members are expected to recognize and adapt to the cultural beliefs of the families served, ensuring sensitivity in all interactions.
Qualifications:- A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required, with a preference for a Bachelor's degree in relevant fields such as Child Development or Social Work.
- Experience in parenting and child development is essential, along with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to pass background checks are mandatory.
This role requires the ability to perform various physical tasks, including lifting up to 30 pounds and traveling to different locations as needed.
