POSITION SUMMARY:
The Certified Respiratory Care Specialist is responsible for delivering safe and effective respiratory therapy treatments as prescribed by a physician. This role involves developing a comprehensive care plan based on thorough assessments and established standards, as well as collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to modify treatment plans as necessary. The specialist will set up, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation in accordance with established protocols. Additionally, they will administer medications with a solid understanding of relevant policies and procedures. Responsibilities include assembling, selecting, and ensuring the proper functioning and cleanliness of equipment, which encompasses mechanical ventilators, BIPAP/CPAP systems, oxygen delivery devices, and more. The specialist will perform various suctioning techniques and draw and analyze arterial blood gases, interpreting results accurately. They will also differentiate between patient and equipment issues, intervening appropriately, and documenting all patient care activities.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Graduation from an accredited Respiratory Care program, with proof of diploma or transcript required upon hire.
- Must possess the Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) credential from the National Board of Respiratory Care, along with a valid state license to practice.
- Candidates with a CRT credential must be registry eligible and obtain the RRT credential within 18 months of employment.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is mandatory.
- Certifications in Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) are advantageous but not essential.
- Pulmonary Function Testing (PFT) certification is preferred.
- At least one year of relevant respiratory care experience within the past two years.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, multi-tasking healthcare environment.
- Strong commitment to customer service, demonstrating patience and empathy while caring for a diverse patient population.
- Proficient in English, with effective verbal and written communication skills necessary for patient interaction and accurate medical documentation.
- Reliable transportation is required for travel between multiple work locations.

- Ensures safe and effective delivery of therapeutic gases and aerosol therapies, adhering to departmental policies.
- Performs chest physiotherapy techniques and suctioning with a focus on patient safety and comfort.
- Administers medications in accordance with established protocols, monitoring for adverse reactions and reporting as necessary.
