Key Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering English language, literacy, and fundamental classroom skills to enhance the learning experience of refugee students.
- Contribute to the development of educational materials.
- Support administrative functions within the team.
- Participate in initial assessments with new clients as needed.
- Facilitate communication with clients.
Role Expectations
- Collaborate with tutors weekly to design lesson plans.
- Travel between the office and tutoring locations.
- Engage in teaching small or large groups of students with diverse ages and skill levels.
- Implement lesson plans as directed by tutors.
- Assist in conducting pre- and post-assessments.
- Record attendance accurately.
- Communicate with clients in person and via phone, utilizing interpreters when necessary.
- Document required information for funders in the database.
- Maintain professional relationships with educational staff and volunteers.
- Arrive punctually for all commitments.
- Report any concerns regarding students to the team promptly.
- Engage with refugee families in a culturally respectful manner.
Additional Information
- This is a part-time, unpaid role.
- A commitment of at least 10 hours per week is required, along with the expectation of completing at least one academic semester.
- In-person tutoring and collaboration with the team are essential components of this position.
- Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with potential for flexible scheduling based on program needs.
- For interns during the spring and fall semesters, participation in two after-school tutoring sessions from 3:00-6:00 pm is mandatory. Availability for two of the following time slots is required: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, or Thursdays. Other scheduling options may be negotiated.
- Summer interns will experience more flexible scheduling, with morning and afternoon tutoring sessions available.
