We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Breastfeeding Specialist II to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing breastfeeding support and education to our clients, as well as managing the direct care of clients and documenting telephone contacts and assessments.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and teach classes to promote, protect, and support clients' breastfeeding decisions.
- Provide breastfeeding support to WIC clients per local agency requirements and scope of practice.
- Manage the direct care of clients, including interviewing and assessing breastfeeding mother and baby dyads for successful breastfeeding experience.
- Document telephone contacts, breastfeeding classes, assessments/consultations, and issuance of breast pumps and breastfeeding equipment per local agency requirements.
- Update and maintain breastfeeding inventory, including following up with client-issued breast pumps to assure timely return.
- Provide yearly in-services on breastfeeding to WIC staff and assist in the breastfeeding training/orientation of new WIC employees as delegated by the breastfeeding coordinator.
- Represent WIC at community organizations, meetings, and coalitions to promote breastfeeding and provide outreach.
- Current/active lactation certification: Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC), or Certified Lactation Educator (CLE), Certified Breastfeeding Specialist (CBS), or International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC).
- One year of experience providing breastfeeding consultations.
- Ability to fluently read, write, and speak both English and Spanish or Creole is preferred.
- A minimum of eight college courses from an accredited institution in the Health Sciences is preferred.
