Ophthalmic Assistants provide vision care under the supervision of a licensed ophthalmologist and assist with taking patient histories, performing diagnostic tests and procedures, patient scheduling, and exam room preparation.

A caregiver in this position works 7:30AM - 4:00PM. Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing patient flow by effectively communicating with team members and providers
  • Processing patient's information through electronic medical records and maintaining the operation of the reception records and the clinical areas
  • Stocking exam and clinical areas
  • Cleaning and sterilizing clinical areas
  • Conducting pre-testing and special testing for the following:
    • Preliminary case history including medical conditions, review of systems and current medications
    • Visual acuity (distance and near)
    • Auto-refraction
    • Lensometry
    • Tonometry
    • Visual field
    • OCT
    • Topography
    • Drop installation-as ordered by provider
  • Performing other duties as assigned based on the needs of the practice

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, formal education or training in optometry and/or ophthalmology preferred, and at least one year of experience in customer service or patient care related environment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Duties of the job require standing, walking and sitting as well as reaching, bending stooping
  • Use of hands and fingers to control equipment required for testing and prescreening

Office environment. Personal Protective Equipment: Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

Our estimated salary range for this position is $40,000-$60,000 per year, depending on location and experience.
