Job Summary

Ethical Culture Fieldston School seeks a highly qualified and experienced Assistant Principal for Academic Life to join our dynamic Upper School team. As a key member of our administrative leadership, you will play a vital role in shaping the academic program and ensuring its alignment with our progressive mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with faculty and Department Chairs to develop and implement a coherent curriculum that reflects our school's values and mission.
  • Oversee the academic calendar, schedule, and faculty meeting schedule, ensuring a smooth and efficient operation.
  • Monitor student workload, including test calendars, course loads, and homework, to ensure a balanced and manageable academic experience.
  • Work closely with the Scheduler, Department Chairs, and Deans to oversee the course selection process, including revisions to the Course of Studies.
  • Establish guidelines for considering requests for schedule changes and respond to requests from students and parents during the summer.

Requirements:

  • A Master's degree or higher in educational leadership and/or curriculum and instruction.
  • At least five years of distinguished teaching experience, preferably with upper school students.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in an administrative role, with prior distinguished leadership experience.
  • Experience with progressive teaching and learning models, such as student-centered/inquiry-based teaching, project-based learning, and performance-based approaches to assessment.
  • Proficiency with technologies, including familiarity with smartboards, Google platform, and various learning management systems (LMS) and student information systems (SIS).
