The New School is seeking a highly motivated and socially engaged individual to serve as a Resident Director in the department of Residential Education. This is a full-time, 12-month, live-on position that requires serving on-call and supporting evening and weekend activities.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement student engagement and community development initiatives using a residential curricular approach grounded in student development theory.
- Collaborate with other departments across the university through the Student & Campus Life co-curriculum.
- Track engagement of residential students using the university's online engagement platform, Narwhal Nation.
- Supervise a team of Resident Advisors, Community Assistants, and potentially a graduate student in the Graduate Resident Advisor (GRA) position.
- Serve as an advisor for the Hall Council of the assigned residential community.
- Actively engage with students and community through frequently attending community engagement events, community walk-throughs, and open office hours.
- Advise and support students concerning issues of academic success, identity, and interpersonal development, and self-authorship.
- Previous experience in Housing and Residential Life.
- Ability to work full-time, 12-month, live-on position, serving in an on-call duty rotation for high-level crisis response and supports occasional weekend and evening events during the academic year and summer.
- Understanding of student development theory, including demonstrated experience with student development and community engagement.
- Demonstrated crisis management skills, including problem-solving and critical thinking.
- Demonstrated experience supervising, developing, mentoring, and motivating a diverse student staff team.
- Ability to manage multiple collaborative projects and systems in a fast-paced environment.
