Job Summary

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking a highly skilled Wastewater Operations Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our wastewater treatment facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assigns, Supervises, and Reviews Work: Assign tasks, supervise, and review the work of others to ensure compliance with District guidelines and policies.
  • Assists in Design and Planning: Assist in the preparation of designs, layouts, and specifications for wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Supervises Construction Activities: Supervise construction activities, including planning, scheduling, and inspecting construction work and materials.
  • Monitors Maintenance and Operations: Monitor the maintenance of District buildings and grounds, and oversee the operation and maintenance of wastewater facilities.
  • Develops and Supervises Programs: Develop and supervise solids application programs, land lease permit programs, and other related initiatives.
  • Inspects and Tests Facilities: Inspect and test sanitary sewer construction and rehabilitation, and install flow meters.
  • Communicates with Stakeholders: Communicate effectively with District personnel, contractors, and the general public to coordinate activities and resolve problem areas.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent.
  • Experience: Five years of sub-professional engineering experience.
  • Substitution: College or technical training beyond high school in engineering or mathematics may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Promotional Requirement: One year of service with the District as an Engineering Technician IV, and civil service status as an Engineering Technician IV.
