About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Assistant Port Engineer to join our team at UIC Government Services and the Bowhead Family of Companies. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the maintenance and upkeep of our vessels and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain all Bowhead equipment, both land-based and at sea, to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Coordinate with the Port Captain and Port Engineer to schedule and oversee vessel repairs and maintenance.
  • Assist in the purchase of equipment and operational supplies, working closely with the Port Engineer and other stakeholders.
  • Travel as needed to support vessel operations and maintenance.
  • Perform field work, including loading, lashing, consolidating, and manifesting cargo as required.
Requirements
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Local resident of Seward, Alaska, or surrounding area preferred.
  • General PC knowledge, including spreadsheet software, word processing software, and knowledge of MS Office Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, problem-solving ability, and good judgment.
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team.
Working Conditions

The work environment varies and includes shipyards, docks, ports, bays, beaches, waterways, office space, equipment rooms, warehouse space, construction zones, and outdoor environments. You will be required to work with hands, stand, walk, reach, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and/or squat. You will also be required to sit for prolonged periods at a desk or workspace and travel by plane or auto.
